Personal Digital Artwork
Aquamarine is part of my ongoing body of personal digital illustration work that explores the relationship between humanity, technology and identity in an increasingly digital world.
Unlike many of my commissioned pieces, these personal works often begin without a rigid plan. I approach them intuitively—drawing free-hand and allowing the narrative to reveal itself as I work. I typically begin with a single idea or theme, then build a world around it, introducing characters, symbols and visual motifs that gradually come together to tell a larger story.
The Concept
At the heart of Aquamarine is a question that feels increasingly relevant:
Where does our physical reality end and our digital reality begin?
The boundaries between the two are becoming increasingly blurred. Our relationships, identities, possessions and even memories are now deeply intertwined with digital systems that increasingly shape the way we think, behave and understand ourselves.
The artwork explores the growing complexity of living in a world where:
- Subscriptions replace ownership.
- Algorithms curate the information we consume.
- Artificial intelligence challenges traditional notions of originality and creativity.
- Digital identities become as important—if not more important—than our physical selves.
- Online discourse increasingly influences how we form opinions and perceive reality.
The Creative Approach
Aquamarine was created through an organic, improvisational process.
Rather than meticulously planning every element, I allowed the piece to evolve naturally, introducing characters and symbols instinctively as the composition developed. Each figure and object became part of a larger visual ecosystem, contributing to a narrative that reflects the confusion, beauty and unease of our digitally mediated lives.
The layered composition intentionally mirrors the complexity of the modern experience—an overwhelming network of information, identities and technologies that are all interconnected.
Themes Explored
- Digital identity and selfhood
- The erosion of ownership in the subscription economy
- Artificial intelligence and originality
- Algorithmic influence and curated realities
- The merging of physical and digital existence
- Information overload and hyperconnectivity
- The future of human agency
The Outcome
Aquamarine is both a personal reflection and a cultural observation.
It captures the strange and often contradictory experience of living in an age where technology simultaneously empowers and alienates us—where our digital lives are no longer separate from reality, but increasingly indistinguishable from it.
The piece invites viewers to question not only how technology is changing society, but also how it is reshaping our understanding of identity, creativity and what it means to be human.
Medium
Digital Illustration
Result
A dense and immersive visual narrative that examines the complexities of modern digital existence, using surreal world-building and intuitive storytelling to explore identity in an era increasingly shaped by algorithms, artificial intelligence and interconnected realities.
