Energising a Workspace Through Large-Scale Illustration
Mural for The Push Up Foundation
A workplace should reflect the energy of the people inside it. For The Push Up Foundation's Perth office in Jolimont, the goal was to transform a blank office wall into a vibrant focal point that celebrated the organisation's culture while creating an environment that inspires staff and visitors alike.
Working closely with the team, I designed and painted a custom mural centred around one of the foundation's core slogans—a message that captures the optimism, momentum and positive impact that drives their work every day.
The result is a bold, high-energy installation that has become a defining feature of the office, reinforcing the organisation's identity while bringing colour and personality into the workspace.
The Challenge
Unlike murals created purely for visual impact, this project needed to balance creativity with the practical realities of an active office environment.
The mural had to:
- Reflect the energetic and optimistic culture of The Push Up Foundation.
- Incorporate one of the organisation's key slogans in a way that felt integrated rather than simply applied to the wall.
- Create a strong visual statement without overwhelming the workspace.
- Leave sufficient negative space beneath the artwork to accommodate desks and future office layouts.
The challenge was to create something employees would see every day that felt uplifting, authentic and unmistakably connected to the organisation's mission.
The Creative Approach
The design combines expressive typography with bold illustration to create a mural that feels energetic from every angle. Rather than treating the slogan as separate text, it became part of the artwork itself, allowing the message and imagery to work together as a single composition.
Careful consideration was given to how the mural would be experienced within the office. Because desks would occupy the lower section of the wall, the composition was intentionally weighted higher, ensuring the key elements remain visible regardless of how the space evolves.
The colour palette and movement throughout the artwork were designed to mirror the enthusiasm and positivity that define The Push Up Foundation, creating an environment that feels motivating without distracting from the everyday work taking place around it.
Designing for Real Workspaces
Office murals serve a different purpose to public art.
Rather than capturing attention for a brief moment, they're experienced repeatedly by the same people every day. The best workplace murals become part of an organisation's identity, contributing to culture, boosting morale and creating memorable spaces that employees genuinely enjoy spending time in.
By combining illustration, typography and spatial planning, the finished mural enhances the workplace while remaining functional within the constraints of a busy office.

For me, projects like this highlight the unique role murals can play within an organisation—not simply as decoration, but as lasting pieces of visual identity that shape how a workplace feels long after the paint has dried.
